Geographical is looking for a number of remote interns in 2023 to help with both journalism and video development.


Writing Internships

Geographical is one of the UK’s oldest environmental publications, with both print and digital publications. We are looking for journalists who can help us take the next step within our digital team, assisting us with increased output, content creation, and delivery. We are looking for interns, both full- and part-time, to join our team immediately and in future.

This position promises to be challenging yet exciting and is focused on in-depth research in the environment, nature and current affairs, and writing articles and website content while working with an experienced digital team. You will learn website and social SEO techniques while writing bylined articles.

You’ll be involved in both new and existing projects with a strong focus on the creation of content, articles and wider marketing campaigns for Geographical. You will be working alongside our digital team, who will provide training and guidance as needed.

You should be proficient and comfortable with:
  • Researching a range of topics and subjects
  • Writing news, blog and website content
  • Writing engaging, accurate and informative articles and other social content and formats such as stories, video scripts, and social media copy captions.
  • Engaging storytelling
Requirements:
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Experience with WordPress and websites desirable but not essential
  • Social media content creation skills are a plus (anything from TikToks to Twitter).
  • Digital skills are also a plus, from Photoshop to using a CMS.

Video Development Internships

We are looking for video editing interns who can help us take the next step within our digital team and create video content from our editorial features and marketing materials, assisting us with increased digital output, video creation, and delivery. We are looking for interns, both full- and part-time, to join our team immediately and in future.

This position promises to be challenging yet exciting and is focused on creating video content from both focuses on creating video content from journalistic and SEO/marketing content. You will learn website and video SEO techniques while creating engaging cross-platform videos, including website, social and YouTube.

You’ll be involved in both new and existing projects with a strong focus on the creation of videos, articles and wider marketing campaigns for Geographical. You will be working alongside our digital team, who will provide training and guidance as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Create visually stunning video assets and content
  • Produce creative assets, video activities across multiple channels
  • Create and edit videos for various social platforms YouTube, Instagram Reels, Facebook
  • Scout for stock videos, audios and construct inspiring stories with the content team
  • Keep up to date and informed on new trends and adapt accordingly
  • Assist in designing and creating storyboards with the content team
  • Trim footage segments and put together the sequence of Instagram reels/videos
  • Input music, dialogues, graphics, and effects
  • Assist in selecting audio, video, colours, animation, etc. for videos
  • Capture, segregate and edit videos in a limited time frame
Skills & Qualification:
  • Video Editing
  • Graphic Design (desirable but not a necessity)
  • English Proficiency (Written + Spoken)
